Grover’s Mill Under
Attack Again!
70th Anniversary of War of the Worlds
Broadcast
It was October 30, 1938 and
actor/director Orson Welles decided to use H.G. Wells’ 1898 novel, War of the
Worlds for the Halloween segment of his radio series, “Mercury Theatre on the
Air.” An estimated 1.7 million listeners tuned in that night to hear what
sounded like a real life invasion of a small town in New
Jersey.
On October 30, 2008,
the City of Carrollton, Texas will sponsor a reenactment of the famous radio
show for the 70th
Anniversary. Come to the Carrollton Library “Story Time” room at the
Josey/Hebron branch, at 7 pm and listen as the town of Grover’s
Mill again faces alien attack. Admission is free.
There will also be a
special matinee performance for those who miss the anniversary night performance
at the same location on Saturday November 1st at 2 pm.
The Sagittarii
Theatre Company is produced by E.
Gaston Huckabay and directed by Natalia Corres. The actors include Brian Dakota, Boyd Mooney, J.R. Peacock,
Elfriede Russell, and Brian
Higginbotham.
